Talk about a ripoff. A cotton T-shirt covered with dozens of holes and tears is taking high end couture to a whole new level – with a price tag of $ 1,625 ordered.
French designer Christophe Decarnin is the mastermind behind the expensive olive-green number from haute couture brand Balmain.
It has been described as “cool scruffy style” luxury fashion retailer, but mindful of the economy of New Yorkers to think otherwise.
“I have no money for that,” said Bronx beautician Milli Rosario, 47, who gasped when she heard the price of the item.
“My rent, credit cards, all my bills for a month at only $ 2,000.
“For a shirt, the most I pay is $ 12. Even if I had the money, I do not like it,” she added.
The “slashed Army T-shirt” has several large and small holes in the front and rear is made from 100% cotton.
It comes in one color and can be purchased online, and the holes in the front are like two eyes, nose and mouth.
“I cannot spend much money on an item. The maximum expenditure on a shirt is $ 7,” said consultant home health Marcial Iseult White, 56, who lives in Chelsea.
“It’s crazy, but that should only be for advertising,” she added. “I think that only millionaires can afford.
“I’d rather pay the rent. I prefer to buy food. These are things that are most important to me.”
Other fashion items Balmain brand are available in select stores throughout Manhattan, and although the clothing and accessories are not cheap, even a quilted leather bag costs $ 65 less than the hole-ridden T-shirt.
“I don’t like the style,” Marcial-Blanco added.
“I think it is for people who want to be the first to buy everything.
“But the way the economy is right now, we must be careful how we spend money and make sure that we use in the most important things.”
